Picture book about a mysterious underwild cat (Uraoamote wildcat) that travels back and forth between the underworld and the front world, and his encounter with a girl.
The Underwild cat is fond of saying, “Well, from the underworld’s point of view, the underworld is the front world and the front world is the underworld.”

The text is printed in 5 colors using CMYK + special gold.
The title is printed in letterpress.
The cat’s belly is hollowed out, and you can see a twinkling star printed on the back cover.
This work was originally published by Horinouchi Publishing in 2015 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Iriomote wildcat, and has been reprinted by KISSA Books with a new binding in 2023.
About Author
Nana Inoue
Writer. Born in Maizuru City, Kyoto. Lives and works in Tokyo.
Studied art in the U.S. by herself at the age of 16. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Japan.
She received the Silver Prize at the BEST BOOK DESIGN FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD in Leipzig, Germany in 2018,
for her picture book, “Kumamade-no osarai (A story of it becomes a bear),” special edition (Be Nice).
In 2021, her first collection of works “Hoshi ni Ehon o Tsunagu” (Connecting Picture Books to the Stars)
was published by Raitosha.
In 2022, “PIHOTEK: Walking with the Wind in the North Pole” (Kodansha), co-authored with adventurer Yasunaga Ogita,
won the Grand Prize at the 28th Japan Picture Book Award.
The same work won the Book Design and Binding Contest and the Japan Book Publishers Association President’s Award.
Other books include “Uraomote Yamaneko” (KISSA BOOKS), “A Cat of Miira” (KISSA BOOKS, after 2025/1/28), and “Sekai Neko-no Hi” (KISSA BOOKS, after 2025/1/28).
She views bookmaking as a form of architecture and continues to produce books.
